This would be the first time in several months that Holbrooke would be heading for India, which he had to skip during his previous few trips to the region because of scheduling problem.

When asked about he not being in the region after the presidential election in Afghanistan,Holbrooke said: “The truth is that I go to Afghanistan every two months and I was there less than two months ago.

“When I came back,I knew we were plunging into the biggest imaginable policy debate (on the Af-Pak region)… So Hillary and I mutually felt that my place at this time was to stay here.” And now he plans to go to India and Afghanistan. “That was always the plan,” he was quoted as saying.
