The 2010 Commonwealth Game Organising Committee, which came in for criticism for the lack of coordination between its 23 sub-committees,finally conducted the first full cluster meeting of the bodies last week to assess the progress across all functional areas,OC vice-chairman Randhir Singh said on Monday. Concerns exchanged It was the first meeting of the all the sub-committees and they exchanged their views and concerns. Many chairpersons of various committees were also present and the meeting brought all the members closer, said Singh, who was recently assigned the responsibility to oversee the committees. Singh had warned last month that the Games could be in jeopardy if the heads of the sub-committees did not meet more often, fearing a scenario where the right hand did not know what the left was doing. Singh also met with 17 National Sports Federations (NSFs) and asked them to renew their contracts with foreign coaches. We have told them to get in touch with the coaches and ensure, along with the Sports Authority of India, that their contracts are renewed well in time so that there is no discontinuity, he said. The OC also asked the NSFs to enroll their technical officials for the conduct of the Games. The federations also touched upon the issue of procurement of equipment and training of athletes, and Singh said the government has assured the OC that procedure would be complete by December 15. Meanwhile, the IOA has not yet announced the new schedule of the Ranchi National Games.
