The moment DDCA announced the final team for the upcoming Cooch Behar Trophy, things got progressively worse and ended with the DDCA lodging a police complaint against the father of one of the probables. Tarang Gupta was left out of the U 19 squad and his father made his displeasure known by roughing up selector Vinay Lamba. People present at the site of incident told The Indian Express that Gupta went to the extent of even pushing and slapping Lamba. This is not the first time that Tarangs father has been involved in an ugly spat; similar complaints were registered against him during the selection of the U 16 state team. Meanwhile,Lamba rubbished allegations of unfair selection. Selection was solely on merit. A unanimous call was taken by the selection committee to pick Aamir Beig, he said. He also confirmed that there were questions on Tarangs fitness and that was one of the reasons for him not making the final team. Meanwhile, police confirmed that the victim had suffered no injuries and refused to go for a medical examination. Vinay Lamba had no physical injuries at the venue. He was asked to accompany for a medical examination but he refused. Anyway, the case has been registered and further inquiries are on, said DCP (central district) Jaspal Singh. DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan was critical of the incident and said that strict action will be taken. I was informed by members present at the site. I rushed from St. Stephens ground and saw the altercations between Lamba and Tarangs father. I deemed it right to call the police and lodged a complaint against the offender, said Chauhan.
