Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today highlighted the need for nurturing sporting talents in the state by upgrading sports facilities and organising different tournaments.
“Exposure to the sportspersons in various tournaments will help them prove their talent and move forward in various sports fields,” Omar said at a function here.
The chief minister said his government has already put in place a multipronged policy to develop sports and upgrade its standard in the state.
“Various measures to provide opportunities to the players are being provided to help them shine at the state and national levels,” he said while elaborating that wide-ranging sports facilities are being developed across the valley.
“Our boys and girls are none to anyone”,he said,adding that they need proper opportunities,coaching and exposure to prove their mettle.
For this purpose,Omar said,organising sports temperament and encouragement to the players are essential.
Appreciating CRPF for organising ‘Shaheed Asfaqulla Khan’ T20 Cricket Tournament in Kashmir Division and providing an opportunity to young cricketers,he said such tournaments provide opportunities to the players to excel and be seen in the IPL and other national tournaments. Omar presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs one lakh to the winners,Anantnag Cricket Club,while Baramulla DC Cricket XI was handed over the runner’s up trophy along with a cheque of Rs 50,000.
Omar also handed over bicycles to 54 needy school girls,which were donated by the CRPF. Inspector general of CRPF,Kashmir,Ramesh,said 80 teams had participated in the tournament,which went on for three months at various places across the valley. He said CRPF has provided training to 300 youth of Kashmir in various skills besides providing tools to 100 artisans and computer units to 24 schools this year.
