Dutch scramble F-16 fighters to intercept Amsterdam airport-bound Vueling’s ‘hijacked’ plane

Neither Schiphol airport nor the Dutch Defence Ministry were immediately available to comment.

The Dutch Defence Ministry sent two F-16 fighters to intercept a Vueling airplane thought to be carrying hostages on board that was bound for Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport from Malaga to Amsterdam,Dutch website nu.nl reported on Wednesday.

Neither Schiphol airport nor the Dutch Defence Ministry were immediately available to comment. A Vueling spokeswoman could not confirm the report.

All passengers were on board and the plane has been surrounded by security forces,he added.

A spokesperson for Spain’s Vueling airline said the reports that the plane had been hijacked were due to mis-communication between the pilot and the control tower.

Ultimately,the entire episode was sought to be downplayed as a huge error on the part of authorities across sectors due to great fear over generated in aviation post 9/11.
