DSP killing: CBI books Raja Bhaiya for murder

Raja Bhaiya had resigned as minister after he was booked for criminal conspiracy in the murder.

THE CBI,which took over the probe into the murder of Uttar Pradesh DSP Zia-ul-Haque on Thursday, named MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya,in one of its four FIRs.

Sources said Raja Bhaiya and four others have been booked under various sections of the IPC,including murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting and intentional insult to provoke violence. The FIR has been filed on the basis of the statement of Haque’s wife,Parveen Azad.

Two of the FIRs are connected to the murders of Balipur village pradhan Nanhe Lal Yadav and his brother Suresh Yadav. The fourth FIR relates to the report filed by Manoj Shukla, station officer of Hathigawan, who has since been suspended for dereliction of duty.

The CBI has sent a 10-member team, including forensic specialists,to Kunda. The agency will question Raja Bhaiya, and also seek the call detail records of all the accused to get their location at the time of the incident.

Kunda circle officer Haque was killed in Balipur on the night of March 2,when he had gone to the spot following Nanhe Lal’s murder. The CBI has also taken up the inter-related murder cases of Nanhe Lal and Suresh.

The agency will seek custody of two accused arrested by the state police so far — Rajeev Singh and Sanjay Singh alias Guddu Singh, considered to be a close aide of Raja Bhaiya. While Rajeev Singh is an accused in the murder of Nanhe Lal,Guddu Singh has been named in the FIR relating to the murder of Haque and Suresh Yadav.

A five-time MLA from Kunda in Pratapgarh district,Raja Bhaiya has over four dozen criminal cases against him. The CBI is already probing two cases against him, referred to it by the state government. Raja Bhaiya resigned from Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav’s cabinet earlier this week after he was booked for criminal conspiracy in Haque’s murder.
