Deepika failed to maintain minimum level of performance: Coach

The Tata Archery Academy (TAA) coach Dharmendra Tiwary was extremely disappointed that her ward Deepika Kumari produced a below par performance.

The Tata Archery Academy (TAA) coach Dharmendra Tiwary was extremely disappointed that her ward Deepika Kumari produced a below par performance to bow out of the women’s individual recurve event.

“Even at her worst,country’s top ranked archer Deepika shot in the range of 27/28 at any international competitions but she failed to maintain even that today,” Tiwary said indicating that it was her lack of temperament that became her undoing.

Knowing the tough competition in mega sports event such as Olympics,Tiwary said,”We did not expect a medal in the Olympics but (were) certainly confident that she will give a tough fight to world class archers but she failed to maintain even her minimum level of performance.”

Tiwary also regretted the dismal performance of her seniors,who crashed out of the competition soon,even as the Indian team (men and women) had qualified for the first time in Olympics.

Deepika was under pressure following the dismal show of the seniors as the entire country was expecting a medal from her,he felt.
