One of the three players to have received the maximum flak for Team Indias poor performance at the World Twenty20,Rohit Sharma rubbishes reports raising questions over his fitness. Speaking to The Sunday Express after his return from the Caribbean,Sharma says the fans and the media should stop over-reacting to the teams early departure from the West Indies. Excerpts:
Gary Kirsten is said to have pulled you up for not being fit.
Its all fictional. He didnt come and tell me anything. Gary never doubted my fitness. If there was any issue,he would have certainly come and told me.
What is expected to come out of the report that Kirsten is expected to submit to the board?
I came to know to about this so-called report only when we landed in India. Gary is the coach and had there been anything he wanted to say about my fitness or batting,he would have been the first person to approach me. Our relationship has been great and he has always motivated me.
Were you there at the venue, where a few Indian players were allegedly involved in a brawl.
I was there, but there was no actual fight that took place. A few fans were heckling some of us,and Ashish Nehra tried to intervene. It led to an argument. But it didnt lead to anything big. I think we lost that is why such media reports are coming in. We all are hurt and we dont mind people saying that we played badly, because that is a fact. But when you see these false stories, its disturbing.
Where do you rate your fitness?
I dont really know where this fitness issue came from. You have to see my performances during the IPL. I didnt drop any catches,in fact took some good one. If you really are that keen on knowing about my fitness then you can call Ramji, our trainer and ask him about it.
