Sunil Chetri is down but not out after missing out on Coventry City for the diminutive striker feels this was not the end of the road but a lesson well learnt.

The India and East Bengal forward didn’t have much time to impress Coventry City boss Chris Coleman but said rather than being dejected,he was looking to build on the experience as he will be making another try in the summer.

“I am not disappointed or dejected. Rather I have enjoyed my stay here and have gained a lot,” Chetri said from Coventry.

The English Championship club tried out Chetri for three days before Coleman ruled out any more interest in the striker.

“A lot was made of him coming over and I think he is going to go around a few clubs. He has had a few days with us but that is it,” Coleman had said on Thursday.

“I understand he has a big reputation in India and he is a very nice young man but we won’t be following up our initial interest,” he said.

However,Chetri and his England-based manager Yogesh Joshee said this does not mean the end of the road for the player.

“Coventry is right now in a difficult position in the league but I am absolutely sure that they would like to sign him in the summer,” saids Joshee.

“The manager feels that Sunil has the game to play at the championship level. Right now the time was too short before the winter deadline. We are going to have another try when the transfers begin in the summer,” he added.

Both agreed that the important thing was to get a feel of the English conditions. “He (Sunil) knows he can play at this level and so is not disappointed. The trip was more to see whether he can adapt himself to the conditions,” Joshee added.

Chetri will board a flight to Mumbai tomorrow and may play some part in East Bengal’s I-league match against Mumbai FC the same afternoon.
