Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif combined to run through the New Zealand batting line-up to leave the first Test poised nicely going into the fifth day in Dunedin.

The Kiwis,97 ahead from the first innings, were rattled by some incisive fast bowling by the Pakistan duo to end the day at 147 for eight in their second, with an overall lead of 244.

Aamer dismissed Martin Guptill in the first over of the innings, and then had one-drop Daniel Flynn leg-before in the third of the innings to leave the hosts gasping at 0/2. Tim McIntosh and Ross Taylor then engineered a fightback with a 87-run stand before Taylor was run out. Gul and Asif then got into the act, dismissing Peter Fulton and McIntosh respectively as the Kiwi wickets kept tumbling. Aamer had taken 2/29 and Asif 4/41.

Brief scores: New Zealand 429 and 147/8 in 61.5 overs (R Taylor 59,T McIntosh 31; Asif 4/41,Aamer 2/29) vs Pakistan 332 all out in 96.5 overs (U Akmal 129,K Akmal 82; S Bond 5/107)
