* Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong reached a settlement on Wednesday in one of the fraud cases spawned by his confession that his Tour De France victories were fuelled by doping. Mark Kincaid,an attorney for Nebraska-based Acceptance Insurance,confirmed the company had reached a settlement with Armstrong but gave no details. The company sued Armstrong and the Tailwind Sports Corporation in March claiming the cyclist committed fraud by concealing his use of performance enhancing drugs during the 1999,2000 and 2001 Tours. The lawsuit sought repayment of USD 3 million “in undeserved an unearned pay Lance Armstrong obtained by fraud.

* World number two Adam Scott’s hopes of winning the World Cup of Golf for Australia plunged midway through his opening round on Thursday when he crashed to a quintuple-bogey nine at the par-four 12th at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Scott started steadily enough,grafting through breezy conditions to be one-under at the turn.Scott fell away again with a bogey on the par-five 15th and finished with a four-over 75 to be joint 46th in the field of 60,nine strokes behind joint leaders Kevin Streelman of the United States and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn.
Uruguay seal WC spot
* Uruguay sealed their spot at the 2014 World Cup finals after a goalless draw at home to Jordan in the second leg of their intercontinental playoff on Wednesday saw them advance 5-0 on aggregate. Uruguay,the last of the 32 teams to book their place at the finals in Brazil,had all but secured their berth with a crushing 5-0 victory in the first leg in Amman last week.
Dilshan powers SL to T20 win
* Tillakaratne Dilshan hit an unbeaten 59 and Kusal Perera smashed a 37-ball 57 to propel Sri Lanka to an easy eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the second Twenty20 and a 1-0 win in the two-match series on Thursday. Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first,and they made 142-7 at Pallekele International Stadium. The home team reached the target with 13 deliveries to spare. The result kept Sri Lanka atop the Twenty20 rankings.
