Vinod Mulchandani,the bookie arrested by the Gujarat police with Rs1.28 cr cash and 10 gold biscuits,has links with the big betting network that was in contact with former Rajasthan medium-pacer Amit Singh. Singh,who was arrested in the spot-fixing case last week,is suspected to have been in touch with Mulchandani. Mulchandani aka Vinod Kathi of Bhavnagar was running the north Gujarat line and had a direct link with Jitu Tharad,considered the kingpin.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch Chief JCP A K Sharma said: Vinod was operating under the umbrella of a prominent Mumbai bookie,who runs the Gujarat network. Amit Singh had inside information on the matches and cricketers and that helped the bookies to place bets this season.
