A US drone fired missiles targeting a militant hideout in Pakistan's restive North Waziristan tribal region killing at least nine terrorists,officials said on Saturday The attack occurred in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan late last night,officials said. The drone fired three missiles targeting a militant compound,believed to be a centre for the Haqqani network of Taliban which carries out attacks on US and NATO forces in Afghanistan from its bases in Pakistan's tribal belt. Officials said nine militants were killed in the strike. Initial reports had said the attack left five militants dead. A vehicle and a house were also destroyed in the strike. This is the 12th US drone attack in Pakistan's tribal belt this month. US has stepped up missile strikes in North Waziristan since a suicide bomber linked to the Pakistani Taliban killed seven CIA operatives in neighbouring Khost province of Afghanistan last month.
