BERHAMPUR (ORISSA), OCT 17: A priest of a church and his cook were injured after being allegedly assaulted by a group of people when they protested against the forcible grazing of cows inside the church premises at Betikolar village of Kandhamal district yesterday, a senior police official said here today.

Priest Lameswar Kanhar and cook Rajanikanta Digal had been admitted to the district headquarter hospital at Phulbani, Deputy Inspector General of Police B.N. Hota said.

A case has been registered and two persons were detained in this connection while other accused, who had been identified, were absconding, he said.

Armed policemen had been posted in the church premises as a precautionary measure, he said.

According to the FIR lodged by the cook, a group of people had arguments with the priest who protested the forcible grazing of cows inside the church premises. Subsequently, both the priest and the cook were beaten up by the group, it said.
