KOZHIKODE, SEPT 22: Anirudhan KP, who has claimed to be the nephew of President KR Narayanan, was remanded to custody till October 3 in a cheating case filed by psychiatrist Dr Santhakumar at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here.Anirudhan was arrested from his wife Sudharma's family house, Tholikod Malayadiyil, at Aryanad near Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday by Aryanad police. He had been at Aryanad for the last one week.He was arrested on the basis of the Crime Stopper call to the City Police Commissioner.He told the police emphatically that he was the son of KR Narayanan's sister Bharathi and showed family photographs to prove his claim.In a petition filed by Santhakumar earlier at the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here, he alleged that KP Anirudhan of Sathyanagar, Ootacamuns, and his wife Sudharma had taken Rs 29,39,000 from him offering MBA admission to his son Sanjay S Kumar at Jakarta University and the post of management trainee to him at a well-known company there.He averred inhis petition that SNDP local leader Gopinath introduced Anirudhan to him in 1995. He was introduced as the nephew of KR Narayanan and as a serving senior consultant of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and head, Asian Regional Marketing Division, Continental Beverages Company, Madagascar.Anirudhan told him that Rs 18 lakh would be required for MBA admission and that Sanjay would get US $ 3,000 per month as management trainee. The amount was given in instalments. But he could not secure admission.In March 1996, Anirudhan informed Santhakumar that it would be difficult to obtain admission in Jakarta. Instead he offered admission at Tata Institute in Nepal and offered the post of executive trainee there to Sanjay. In addition, Anirudhan offered a job to Santhakumar as adviser in the Health Directorate in Nepal and another job to Santhakumar's wife.According to the petition, Anirudhan announced that Rs 30 lakh was required and that they had to pay the remaining amount only as hehad already taken Rs 18 lakh. The amount was paid. Santhakumar and son went to Kathmandu but nothing came of it.He visited Anirudhan's residence at Ooty as he felt cheated. Sudharma, Anirudhan's wife was there. A cheque for Rs 67,000 was given but it bounced, Santhakumar's petition added.
