President A P J Abdul Kalam took a nasty fall this afternoon, while on his daily walk at the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens, resulting in a ‘‘minor fracture’’ in his right shoulder.

He will undergo ‘‘corrective surgery’’ tomorrow morning at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantonment, where he was admitted at around 8 pm, after being examined by a Rashtrapati Bhavan doctor, said the President’s spokesman S M Khan.

The incident occurred around 12.30 pm, Khan said, when Kalam was talking his daily walk, a routine which he delayed by a few hours today following rain and cold wave conditions.

‘‘The weather was bad today and the rains made the ground muddy and slippery. The President slipped and complained of pain,’’ Khan told The Indian Express.

Rashtrapati Bhavan doctors then got an X-ray done which confirmed the fracture, said Khan.

‘‘This requires a surgical correction and rest for a few days. The President will be admitted to the Research and Referral Hospital of the Ministry of Defence and the operation will take place tomorrow morning,’’ said Khan.
