MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 15: The Kandivali police foiled a robbery bid by arresting five persons belonging to the Arun Gawli gang, on November 14 at 2.30 pm, near Apna Bazar.

According to the police, while they were patrolling the area, they found three persons moving about in a suspicious manner. Anticipating trouble, the patrolling team headed by police inspector S Talekar and his constables, laid a trap. A while later, two more persons joined the trio. The police imediately swooped on them and arrested them.

Two country made revolvers with six live cartridges and two choppers were recovered from them.

According to the police, the criminals had gathered around to plan a dacoity of a diamond merchant in Dahisar and a jwellery shop in Kandivali. Speaking to the paper, investigating officer S Talekar said that the investigations are on and there is a possibility that they might give a valuable clue about a series of robberies in the area. Two constables, Ramchandra Bandekar and Vitthal Shinde, were injured while trying to trap the gangsters.

Those arrested have been identified as Kiran Ramchandra Manchekar, Jeetendra Chhatilal, Mohammad Hussain Jamaluddin Sheikh, Ram Sevak Saroj, and Noor Mohammad Islam Shaikh. Various cases have already been registered against Jeetendra Chhatilal, and Ram Sevak Saroj, said the police.
