Rejecting the bail application of aspiring Bollywood actor Preeti Jain, held yesterday for allegedly giving a contract to kill filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, a metropolitan magistrate today remanded her to police custody till September 16.

Naresh Pardeshi (24), an aide of gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli, to whom she had been given the contract, was also placed in police custody for five days.

According to the remand application, police have found that Jain and Pardeshi had several telephonic conversations and met to plan the killing of Bhandarkar. The police said the contract was issued after Bhandarkar got anticipatory bail in a case registered against him for allegedly raping Jain.
