Praveen Kumar came up with a sterling all-round performance to guide India A to a thumping 10 wicket victory over Kenya in a league match of the triangular tournament at the Nairobi Gymkhana ground today. India A picked up a bonus point for the win.
The 20-year old from Meerut produced a devastating spell of 8.2-1-28-3 and was ably supported by his new ball partner Pankaj Singh, who returned with best figures of 4/29 in his eight overs as Kenya were bundled out for a paltry 98 in just 26.2 overs after being put into bat. Yomahesh, the third seamer in the team picked up two wickets while Pragyan Ojha claimed one.
For Kenya, skipper Thomas Odoyo fought a lone battle with the bat, compiling a neat 43 before becoming Kumar’s third and the final wicket to fall in the home team’s innings.
Pravin then returned to open the innings and seemed in a tearing hurry to knock off the runs and went after the Kenyan bowlers with a whirlwind 57-run knock of 27 balls, with six hits to the fence and four over it to be the Man of the Match. Yusuf Pathan, who was named in India’s Twenty20 side, hit a breezy 29 from 20 balls as India winded up the proceedings, scoring 99 runs in only 7.4 overs.
