As wrangling among key parties left Nepal without a formal administration over three months after the polls, Maoist chief Prachanda on Wednesday met President Ram Baran Yadav to discuss issues relating to government formation and building consensus among all political groups. Prachanda called on Yadav at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here, a day after his party, which emerged the largest group in the landmark April 10 Constituent Assembly polls, was invited by the Indian-origin President to form a government within seven days by forging national consensus. During the meeting, issues relating to government formation and building consensus among all political parties came up, sources at the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

Koirala to attend SARRC meet after apology

Kathmandu: After days of bitter spat,Nepal’s caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was on Wednesday allowed by Nepal’s feuding parties, including the Maoists, to attend the SAARC Summit in Colombo after he apologised for not consulting them on his trip. Koirala, 83, met top leaders from the four major political parties– CPN-Maoists, his own party Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhesi Peoples Rights Forum (MPRF), at his residence in Baluwatar this morning.”After a meeting Maoist chief Prachanda and CPN-UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal have agreed that Prime Minister Koirala can participate in the SAARC Summit,” Koirala’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Aditya Baral told PTI. Prachanda or Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who has positioned himself as the prime minister-in-waiting, had alleged that the formation of the new government led by Maoists was being delayed deliberately to prevent him from attending the Summit.
