After a whopping fine of Rs 1.3 crore recently imposed by the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) on Narmada Board, a cardboard factory, another heavy fine of Rs 61 lakh has been levied on it for power theft.

With this, the total amount of fine levied on the factory stands at Rs 1.9 crore.

PSEB officials say the factory authorities had loaded a software in the electric meter, which was controlled through a remote. This was allegedly done to decrease the number of units consumed by the unit.

PSEB sources say the power theft was done in a highly professional manner. PSEB Director, Mobile Metering Testing Squad and Enforcement, GS Khehra said the owners of the factory had tampered with the first meter, and then with the second one.

The power connection of the unit has been disconnected.
