HYDERABAD, JUNE 14: The nine left parties in Andhra Pradesh would continue their joint agitation against the `abnormal’ hike in power tariff by the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, S Sudhakar Reddy, secretary state unit of CPI, on behalf of the coalition, said the parties would organise `rasta roko’ on June 16 all over the state. On June 24, they would launch a signature campaign against the hike and submit a memorandum to the state government, he said.

He alleged that during Tuesday’s agitational programme, the police lathicharged the peaceful demonstrators and booked cases against them in several district headquarters. He demanded the government to withdraw all cases and prevent police excesses on the demonstrators.

Reddy said activists of all the nine Left parties led by CPI and CPM would hold demonstrations at the venue of a seminar, being organised by the World Bank here on June 23.

The CPI leader also appealed to the people to stage demonstrations at the gram sabhas organisd by APTRANSCO from Friday next and also write letters to leaders of all political parties including state ministers on the hike in tariff.
