NEW DELHI, DEC 7: The indefinite nation-wide strike by postal employees, which has paralysed services across the country, entered the third day today with the unions firm on not withdrawing their strike until all their demands are met.
The three employees’ federations which have called thestrike — National Federation of Postal Employees, Federation of National Postal Organisations and Bhartiya Postal Employees Federation — claimed that the strike was near total on the third day.
"We are continuing the strike till our major demands affecting more than six lakh employees are met. These demands include revision of pay scale of clerical, postmen and Group D employees and those related to Extra Departmental (ED) employees," G K Padmanabhan, Secretary General, Federation of National Postal Organisations, said.
The postal employees are also to take out a march to Parliament later today to be followed by a meeting of the Joint Council Action Committee to review the situation, Padmanabhan said, adding that the strike was nearly cent per cent all over the country.
Yesterday’s meeting with Communication Minister Ram Vilas Paswan was not fruitful as major demands of the employees remained pending, Padmanabhan said.
A few demands which were accepted by the Minister, he said, would benefit only a few thousand employees and hence a decision on withdrawing the strike cannot be taken on that basis.
