The post-electoral violence in Gujarat continues as parts of Rajkot and Vadodara saw more sporadic incidents today. While sensitive areas of Bhavnagar city saw arson and stone-pelting yesterday night and in the wee hours of today, two more people were injured in police firing to contain violence in Vadodara.This morning, a mob burnt down a clothes showroom on Deewanpara Road in Bhavnagar. The night before, police had to lob teargas shells to disperse groups from different communities which had came out on the streets after power failure in the area.Bhavnagar police said that except for these two incidents, the situation was normal in the city. No arrests have been made in connection with either of these two incidents, though complaints have been registered. Businessmen observed a voluntary bandh till today afternoon and night curfew was imposed later as a preventive measure.A police complaint has been registered against 50 people from both communities.In Vadodara, despite deployment of a strong contingent of CRPF and Rapid Action Force, the violence which broke out soon after poll results on Sunday spread late last night to about a dozen areas under Karelibaug, the City, Raopura and Panigate police stations.While two youths were injured in police firing at Nagarwada and Fatehpura, at least 20 people were hurt in a pitched battle between members of the two communities. Police said they lobbed 28 teargas shells and fired six rounds after the situation went out of control at Nagarwada and Fatehpura.Irate mobs also damaged two places of worship at Chhipwad and Yakutpura under the city police station, besides looting and setting ablaze 10 houses and shops in different riot-hit areas.Though a number of complaints have been registered with the police since the violence broke out on Sunday afternoon, no one has been arrested so far. Earlier in the day, newly elected BJP Vadodara city MLA Bhupendra Lakhawala had a narrow escape when a mob attacked him at Dabhi Falia.
