AMBALA, June 3: All water coolers in the General Post office here have been out of order ever since the Summer season began and as a result, the public and the employees do not have any cold water to drink but have to make do with tap water. The pitchers provided by the department also do not serve the purpose fully. Earlier, the then Deputy Commissioner V.K. Parshad had provided a water cooler for the public which is now lying out of order. The officials contacted in the GPO stated that the coolers were not repaired for want of permission from the office of the Post Master General and were not likely to be repaired during the summer.

SDM inspects petrol stations: : Several petrol filling stations were inspected by SDM Ambala, R.K. Garg today to check whether they had charged the people at the revised rates of petrol yesterday, which came out to be Rs 4 extra per litre of petrol. The SDM found out that receipts entered in the records were of the revised rates of the dealers who were advised to make refunds after deducting Rs 1 as additional charges. He warned the dealers for action under the Essential Commodity Act against those violating the directions.

Meanwhile, the dealers had a tough time in dealing with vehicle owners demanding refunds. It is learnt that the dealers had a good time collecting money due to the confusion created on the actual rate of petrol.

Rail police starts investigations: Government Railway Police who recovered the body of a youth aged 25-26 years from the trolly hut at Ambala Railway Station on June 1, are making efforts to establish the identity of the deceased who bore head injuries. The police who had registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC, have started investigations. Similarly, the identity of a middle-aged woman wearing a burqa also has not been established. She was found in an unconscious state after she fell from a running express train near Anaj Mandi in Ambala city on May 12. Later, she was admitted to the civil hospital and then referred to the PGI, Chandigarh where she died. Her body was brought back and was buried here.
