CHANDIGARH, Nov 6: Poonam of Punjab won the 600 metres event in the girls category of the Northern Region Vidya Bharti sports meet being held at Sector 7 Sports Complex. Chitrakshi of Haryana and Poonam of Himachal Pradesh got the second and third positions respectively.
In the two-day meet more than five hundred sports persons are taking part. The competitions is being organised in five disciplines: athletics, judo, wrestling (boys), kho-kho and kabaddi.
St Kabir-26 in semis
In a re-match, St Kabir High School-26 beat St Anne’s High School-32 by eight wickets to enter the semifinal of the under-14 boys in the Edmund Rice cricket tournament being played at St John’s School in Sector 26.
St Kabir will face Hansraj Public School, Panchkula in the semis tomorrow at 8 a.m., while St John’s High School will play Govt Model School-44, in the second semifinal.

Cricket tourney
Seven teams will vie for top honours in the Inter-College cricket tournament for Kapil Dev Trophy which will commence tomorrow at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. In the opening match, Government College-11 will lock horns with SGGS College-26.
The other participating teams includes DAV College, Punjab Engineering College and Punjab University Campus.
Swimming trials
Trials to select Chandigarh Schools team in the age group of under-19, under-17 and under-14 in boys and girls section in swimming for the National School Games to be held at Nasik from November 26 to 30 will be held on November 10 at Nursery Swimming Pool in Sector 23 at 11.30 a.m.
Boxing selection
The Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association will hold trials to select pugilist in all the weight categories for the forthcoming All India AK Mishra Memorial boxing meet. The trials will be held at Sector 46 Sports Complex on November 9 at 4.30 p.m.
The participants should report to Shiv Singh (coach) at the venue.
