The Election Commission has ordered stern disciplinary action against 10 senior officers of Madhya Pradesh on charges of ‘‘gross indiscipline and irresponsibility’’ in conduct of elections in the state.

In a letter to the state government, the EC said the District Election Officers-cum-Collectors and Deputy District Election Officers (DEO) of Jabalpur, Dhindori, Katni, Damoh and Narsingpur have ‘‘failed’’ to furnish the required information to the Chief Electoral Officer despite clear directives from him.

‘‘The EC desires that departmental proceedings leading to major penalty should be initiated by the state government for their failure to perform their assigned duties in time and for their irresponsibility in adhering to the directives of the EC communicated through the CEO,’’ EC sources said.
