‘‘Please stand up when you welcome and see off the elected representative who comes to call on you in office.’’ This forms part of the set of instructions issued by the Haryana Chief Secretary to the state’s bureaucrats.
The instructions, aimed at teaching bureaucrats a few lessons in basic political courtesy, decency and humility, have been despatched to the heads of department and all district headquarters. The government wants officers to strictly follow the courtesy-cum-decency manual.
The babus have been told to attend to MPs and MLAs while observing utmost humility and also to act promptly on their suggestions. All elected representatives should be called to every official function and the officers should ensure comfortable seating arrangement.
The communication takes note of negligence on the part of officials in returning calls from legislators. ‘‘No telephonic messages from MPs and MLAs in the absence of officials should be ignored. Immediate attempt should be made to contact the legislators after the message is delivered,’’ says the Chief Secretary.
