At least eight IPS officers, who had been suspended from service for their involvement in the police recruitment scam, appeared before a high-powered committee headed by Chief Secretary P K Mishra on Tuesday. DGP Vikram Singh and Lucknow Commissioner V S Pandey are the other members of the committee.

R N Yadav, M B Shukla, B R Meena, Chhabinath Singh, Akhilesh Mehrotra, B B Bakshi, S P Singh and B M Tripathi were called one by one into the Chief Secretary’s office to make their statements.

The panel has been constituted by the UP Government to probe if there was any political pressure on the IPS officers. Later, one of the suspended officers said it was very difficult to explain the pressure factor. “There is always some sort of pressure under any government,” he remarked.

Earlier, the Government had constituted a committee headed by Additional Director General S K Mishra to probe the lapses on part of the recruitment boards. The report resulted in the suspension of the 25 IPS officers and sacking of 18,000 new police recruits.
