A group of men in an inebriated state dragged a woman in their car near Moolchand flyover in South Delhi after midnight on Diwali and sped off, police sources said on Wednesday. The car is yet to be traced.

The Police Control Room received the call around 1.30 am saying three or four drunken men dragged the woman into their Ford Ikon car, police sources said. They said the car was headed towards Lajpat Nagar area at the time.

The caller who informed the police, however, was unable to note down the car’s registration number, the sources said.

According to a police official, a message was circulated from the Police Headquarters at ITO to all districts, stating that any Ford Ikon car moving around suspiciously with three or four men in it should be checked immediately. “A massive hunt was launched for about half-an-hour for the mentioned car,” the official said.

Police sources added that the caller told them that he heard yelling from the car after which he informed the police.

A senior officer at Lajpat Nagar police station said, “We have not received a ‘missing’ or any other complaint from areas within our jurisdiction or from adjoining areas. If we get a complaint from someone, we will take further action on the call.”

The officer said they themselves are trying to ascertain if anyone is missing in their areas with the help of the Residents’ Welfare Association. “We are trying to verify whether any woman or girl is missing from the area and we are also trying to trace the man who made the PCR call last night,” the officer said.
