MUMBAI, JAN 1: The Mumbai police kicked off the year by gunning down a Chhota Rajan gang member at N M Joshi Marg early today.

Following a tip off that Shankar Parmar was to collect Rs one lakh from a businessman at E Moses Road, a police team from N M Joshi Marg laid a trap. Around 1.10 am, the team spotted a man behaving in a suspicious manner.

The police claimed that they asked him to surrender, but he opened fired at them, forcing them to retaliate. The gangster was taken to KEM Hospital but declared dead before admission.

The team also recovered an imported .32 bore Lama revolver from Parmar. Parmar was main accused in eight cases of extortion, murder and attempt to murder. The police had also been planning to detain him under MPDA.
