NEW DELHI, October 20: The POLICE today arrested a man who attempted to drive off with a Maruti car and its occupants in Lajpat Nagar last night.Two people were reportedly injured in the incident. The accused has been identified as Kashmira Singh.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. last night when Veena Sabharwal, her husband, son and Deepak their domestic helper went to Central Market to shop for crackers.The victims, Veena and Deepak remained in the car at the parking lot near the police station, while her husband and son went out to shop.

According to the police, Kashmira approached the vehicle and apparently requested Veena to move the car as it was obstructing the way. Veena then reportedly asked him to move the car himself as she could not drive. Kashmira got in the driver’s seat and allegedly took out his knife and threatened the two. As he drove on with the two hostages, Deepak managed to jump out and raise an alarm.

The Supreme Court Monday issued notice on a plea seeking an independent and expeditious investigation into the June 12, 2025, crash of an Air India Boeing Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, which killed 260 people. The bench also termed as “unfortunate” media reports which indicated that “pilot error” was to blame for the crash, purportedly quoting some preliminary findings by the AAIB.
