PUNE, Oct 20: Operation Light, launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation to curb octroi evasions, is paying rich dividends. For the second time, it has helped in crossing the target.
Additional municipal commissioner Deepak Kapoor said the department had earned an octroi of Rs 53.65 lakh against the set target of Rs 50 lakh for a month. “The achievement is significant in view of the low turnover in the market due to industrial recession,” he said.
The PMC netted Rs 27.50 lakh in the first three weeks. During the 10-day period of Operation Light II, the PMC had set a target of Rs 22.5 lakh and recovered Rs 26.15 lakh. The first phase of the operation concentrated on clothes, sarees and electronic items while during the second phase, the octroi department mainly dealt with gold and silver, Kapoor said.
Enthused with the results, Kapoor has now called for Operation Snow-white. It will continue till the end of current year and focus on clothes, woolen suitings and shirtings, sarees, readymade and woolen garments.
The PMC has earned an additional income of Rs 24 crore in the first six months of the current financial year compared to the same period last year.
