The BJP today targeted PM Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for issuing misleading and contradictory statements in the run-up to the Assembly polls in Maharashtra.
The BJP said Singh’s new slogan of ‘Rozgar Badhao Aur Sarkari Kharch Ghatao’ came after the UPA scuttled several employment generation programmes of the previous government. ‘‘The NDA government’s Sampooran Rozgar Yojana, National Highway Development Programme and PM Gramin Sadak Yojana were aimed at creating more jobs and by putting all these projects on the backburner, the UPA’s talk of fresh employment generation is self-contradictory,’’ BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
The party also took exception to Sonia’s statement at a joint rally with NCP chief Sharad Pawar that the Vajpayee government had done little for Maharashtra.
Atal may be in Maharashtra this weekend
NEW DELHI: Former PM A.B. Vajpayee is likely to join the Maharashtra election campaign by the end of this week, sources disclosed here Wednesday.
The BJP is planning at least four rallies for him, the sources added. While one is sure to be held at Mumbai, the venues for the rest are yet to be decided. Vajpayee had called off his first phase of campaigning due to pain in the knees. Senior party leaders including Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L.K. Advani are campaigning in the state.
