The re-enactment of the Dandi Yatra came to a close on Wednesday with two prime announcements — a Rs 10-cr development package for Sabarmati Ashram and conversion of the route between the Ashram and Dandi to a ‘‘heritage route’’.

PM Manmohan Singh made the announcements in the presence of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi who received the flag from the Dandi marchers.

All places where Mahatma Gandhi and his followers halted during the 26-day march will be converted into memorials and the region would be developed in a big way, Singh said. ‘‘The government will also erect statues of all 78 people who had walked with Gandhiji in the salt satyagraha,’’ the Prime Minister added. —PTI
