ROOPNAGAR, Sept 30: The much awaited visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Anandpur Sahib may not materialise owing to indications that the foundation stone of the Khalsa Heritage Museum might be laid by the Panj Piaras.Highly placed sources in the administration and the SGPC revealed that the Panj Piaras would lay the foundation stone and not the Prime Minister, even as the date of the ceremony has now been extended to November 22 from October 17. Earlier, an official release issued to the press had claimed that Vajpayee's visit would be telecast live through Doordarshan. The fresh date announced by Deputy commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu has a historical significance. According to Sidhu November 22 happens to be the Guru Gaddi Diwas of Gobind Singh.Although Panj Piaras are set to lay the foundation stone of the museum, Sidhu was not sure whether the PM's visit had been put off. Adding that efforts were being made to give a facelift to the houses and monuments along the highway to Anandpur Sahib, Sidhu said,``Officials have been deputed to various villages to persuade the residents to whitewash their houses during the event''.Sidhu further disclosed that as a part of tercentenary celebrations of the Khalsa Panth, the historical township of Chamkaur Sahib would also get a facelift. ``Very few people know that the two elder sons of Guru Gobind Singh had died at Chamkaur battlefield, just 15 days ahead of Guru's 38th birthday,'' he said. ``All gates and milestones along the 21 km stretch of road on the Guru Gobind Singh Marg are being whitewashed. Besides, we have an ambitious plan to widen the road,'' he added. Ruling out irregularities by the officials engaged in development projects, he said,``We are working day and night with a sense of gratitude and reverence.''
