Accusing the Congress of creating political instability by pulling down governments, Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee today asked the people to give a decisive mandate to the BJP-led NDA in the ongoing LS polls to ensure stability at the Centre.
‘‘History shows whenever there was a fractured verdict, Congress played its game of breaking governments. But BJP and its allies want political stability in the country… We seek a decisive mandate from the people,’’ Vajpayee told an election rally here.
Vajpayee said the Congress had often pushed the country into ‘‘uncertainty and instability’’ by breaking governments, including those headed by H.D. Deve Gowda, I.K. Gujral and Charan Singh.
People should not give the Congress any opportunity to play its game this time and must vote decisively instead of throwing up a hung Parliament, Vajpayee said.
Vajpayee said the NDA was never worried about the possibility of his government collapsing as it worked cohesively taking everyone into confidence during the last six years.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti and BJP candidate from Chhindwara constituency Prahlad Patel also addressed the meeting.

The BJP-led NDA government was cheating the public by taking credit for India’s development, as the foundation for this was laid by the Congress, Sonia Gandhi said today. Addressing a series of election meetings in Bhind, Nagda and Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi called the BJP a party devoid of principles. She said that instead of fulfiling its promise to provide jobs, it created an unemployment crisis by winding up industries. ‘‘The Vajpayee government has failed to provide jobs to one crore unemployed youth every year as promised. On the contrary, it closed down a large number of industrial units leading to alarming unemployment among the young generation,’’ she said at an election meeting in Bhind.
She charged the government with cheating the people in every sphere. ‘‘Dynamic changes were brought about in education, technology, employment, Panchayati Raj and other spheres by Rajiv Gandhi, who also sowed the seeds of computer revolution in the country by working day and night…But today the NDA is associating itself with all these and it is a blatant lie,’’ she said.
The BJP leaders are enjoying the fruits of the saplings sown by Congress in the past, she added.
