NEW DELHI, September 18: Putting speculation of an impending power crisis at rest, the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB) today claimed that the disruption of the Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) gas pipeline would not affect power supply to Delhi. The DVB said that it does not depend on gas-based power in Delhi. The gas turbine station at Indraprastha Estate currently generates only around 50 MW of power even though its capacity is 282 MW.
“We do not anticipate any power crisis in Delhi. Whatever little shortfall that may arise because of the gas turbine station would be fulfilled by the northern grid,” said Y.P. Singh, Member (Technical) DVB. “The peak demand today was 2,250 MW which we met comfortably and the frequency was also maintained above 49 Hz,” he assured.
A senior DVB official said that though the grid did depend on the affected pipeline there was alternative arrangement of liquid fuel.
