PUNE, July 3: In an effort to encourage sporting talent at an young age among the students, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to begin a sports school from the present academic year. The venture is part of the PCMC’s project to encourage sports and cultural talent of the students studying in the civic schools. The sports school, the first of its kind in Pimpri-Chinchwad, will conduct its training programmes at the Annasaheb Magar stadium.

Mayor Hanumanth Bhosale told newspersons today that one hundred students will be selected from among 400 students for the sports school. They will be given training in the sporting events such as badminton, hockey, athletics, football, kho-kho, kabaddi and table-tennis. Coaches of the Sports Authority of India will give the training to the students. The school will initially be a day school, while from the next year, it will be transformed into a residential school.
