A Public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking details on former revenue minister Narayan Rane’s alleged remark that some politicians were involved in the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.Dr Avisha Kulkarni, an activist and musicologist, has urged the court to order Rane to put on record his statement made before print and electronic media on December 6 and 7.According to the petition, Rane on December 6 made statements before the media including Marathi channel Zee 24 Tas that there is involvement of political leaders in terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The following day, Rane again made remarks before several regional and English newspapers that there is support of some political leaders in the terrorist attack, the petition states.Petition cites Rane’s statements which said that “they (terrorists) have financial support from our political leaders and he (Rane) would disclose the details at appropriate time”.On Rane’s statement that some information was with him when he was chief minister of Maharashtra, the petition states that “he has suppressed the information from police for several years”. Kulkarni wants the court to test the correctness of the issue. If it is false then necessary action should be taken against Rane. But if true, even then he is guilty of suppressing the information. Petitioner has urged the court to take action against erring political leaders if they are involved in the terror attacks. “The petition is likely to come up for hearing on December 18,” said Kulkarni’s lawyer V P Patil.
