Invests four million Euro for capacity expansion of Pune plant
Phoenix Mecano (India) Ltd. an Indo-Swiss joint venture, engaged in the manufacturing of enclosures, mechanical and electronic components has strengthened its manufacturing base in India by adding on to the existing capacities and by starting production activities for new segments.
The Phoenix Mecano Group has invested over 4 million Euros in the last couple of years to expand its manufacturing and distribution activities in India.
Benedikt Goldkamp, CEO Phoenix Mecano AG said, “Since inception we believed in the strengths of Indian engineers to deliver out of box solutions and we also believed in advantages of undertaking manufacturing activities in India. We started our global sourcing from India 12 years ago & to leverage the advantages of the Indian manufacturing platform we also set up capacities on our own.”
“Today, we are very happy to share that India has emerged has a major manufacturing hub for us, from where we service Asian & European markets and to cater to their needs we have expanded our manufacturing base here,” Goldkamp added.
Under the expansion drive an ultramodern aluminum die-casting unit to manufacture enclosures has been set up, which has not only increased the capacity by 3 folds but has also increased the number of types of enclosures being manufactured in India as compared to the capacity before.
Now the Pune unit is manufacturing 70 different types of enclosures as compared to 30 before. The current capacity of the plant is to manufacture over 2.5 million enclosures per annum & the sprawling facility is spread over 70000 square feet.
Saurabh Shukla, managing director, Phoenix Mecano (India) Ltd. stated that while the company was concentrating on making India as a production hub for their global business, equal importance was given to the Indigenization of many products, making them cost competitive in the domestic market. The domestic market has been growing rapidly. Currently 60% of the sales revenue of India operations is contributed by the domestic market.
