Marry but give the guests food too
THE NATION: (From a letter to the Editor):
This refers to Pressreports lamenting the resumption of serving food to marriage guests in thewake of the ouster of Nawaz Sharif’s Government. This was perhaps the worstexample of unbalanced legislation by the erstwhile rulers, that affected thenational economy by closing down food businesses that generated huge revenuefor the state. Who has heard of a ruler placing an absolute ban on servingfood to marriage guests, whereas hospitality is considered a part ofIman-i-kamil in Islam! The Holy Quran and Hadith-i-nabvi exhort moderationin all aspects of life, including expenditure on food, but never disapproveserving of food to guests at the happy occasions of marriage and walima. This issue needs proper investigation.
