President Bill Clinton received Israel's Rabin-Peres peace prize, from the hands of Leah Rabin, widow of the assassinated prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, the White House said.Named after Rabin and his successor Shimon Peres, the prize ``is an effort .to establish recognition for those who have been active and committed to the Middle East peace process,'' White House spokesman Michael McCurry said on Thursday.Clinton will be the first recipient of the prize created by the Rabin and Peres foundations.The two Israeli leaders were the driving forces behind the peace accords Israel has signed with the Palestinians. Along with Yasser Arafat, they won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for their efforts.McCurry denied that the peace prize represented ``a slap'' in the face for Benjamin Netanyahu, who this week concluded a visit to the United States during which he was not invited to meet with Clinton.
