CHANDIGARH, June 12: A memorandum of understanding was signed this afternoon between Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and SunTime Energy Limited for participation in a project for manufacturing SPV modules at Mohali near here as an assisted sector project.

The total cost of the project comes to about Rs 127 lakhs. The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) has given a loan of Rs 80 lakhs to SunTime Energy Limited for this project which is unique to this part of the country. The annual capacity of the project will be 1 MW.

The PEDA would lend its franchise as its equity participation of Rs 10 lakh only. This was to promote the setting up of non-conventional energy projects in the state by private parties. The project is being the first of this kind in Punjab after announcement of state industrial policy of 1996.

The MOU was signed by Jagjit Puri, chief executive , PEDA and S.S. Ahluwalia, managing director of SunTime Energy Limited in the presence of S.S. Boparai, secretary, MNES, Government of India-cum-chairman IREDA, at the northern region headquarters of CII here.
