Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Sharad Pawar has reportedly resigned from the BCCI’s much-hyped marketing committee.

The reason for the resignation isn’t clear, though. While former BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur told The Indian Express: ‘‘Pawar has resigned from the committee because of the financial mess at in the board,’’ there were also reports that he was to busy with his political work and was left with no time for Board matters.

Sources in the board informed that Pawar was particularly inquisitive about some unnecessary and unexplained expenditures incurred by the Board. Dungarpur confirmed the old allegation that that Pawar was intrigued by the Rs 25 lakh tagged as ‘miscellaneous expenses’.

It is learnt that Pawar, who is now out of the city, is likely to speak on this on Sunday. Pawar has reportedly said that he ‘‘feels like an outsider and that he is only being used by the board,’’ sources informed.

With the two series coming up the question of telecast rights is hanging fire. This is yet to be decided and the Zee issue still remains in the backburner. The Punjab Cricket Association has threatened to give individual rights for the Mohali ODI if the BCCI doesn’t act on time.
