Baroda, dec 1: Baroda made 222 for seven wickets on the opening day of their three-day under-16 cricket match against Mumbai for the Vijay Merchant Trophy today.

Middle-order batsman Irfan Pathan was unbeaten on 64 at stumps and giving him company was Hemal Shah (27 batting). The two together have already put in 91 runs.

Opener Yogesh Matruja (32), Ravi Pandya (23) and Shatrunjay Gaekwad (29) also made worthwhile contributions to the hosts’ total.

Paul Valthati shared the bowling honours with M Shoeb. Valthati took 2-33 while Shoeb snapped three wickets for 58 runs.
