Friday is going to be a big day. Not only for the Indian team which hopes to level the one-day series with West Indies at Motera, but for the Patel family which is going to watch their beloved Parthiv play for the first time instead of watching his heroics on the telly.

There will be another first that day for Parthiv’s family — their first visit to a cricket stadium; only his sister Kinjal has ever been to a stadium before.

Nishaben, Parthiv’s mother, is all excited about the match. ‘‘We have never seen him play an matches at any level. Rather, he never let us do so. It was only on television that we saw him play at the international level.’’

She adds, ‘‘The first time I saw him go out to bat for India, I think I was more nervous than him. I was so worried about whether he’ll do well or not. But now that phase is over and I am eagerly waiting to see him out in the middle. I don’t know whether he will play or not on Friday, but it will still be a great moment of pride to see my son with the Indian team. I am just proud of my son.’’

His father, Ajaybhai Patel, is also very supportive of his 17-year-old. ‘‘We would not like to put any sort of pressure on him. We just want him to feel free and play his own game. Our presence should never cause him any problems. That is the main reason why we did not go to watch any of his matches, but this time he has asked us to be there.’’
