Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said that he would soon lead a delegation of eminent leaders from the minority communities to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to demand a CBI probe into the anti-Christian attacks in Orissa. He declared this after meeting a delegation of Christian leaders at his residence.

The delegation comprising Archbishops of Delhi and Bhubaneswar apprised Paswan of the situation prevailing in Orissa and sought his help. The delegation alleged that the state machinery had failed to protect the Christians. They charged the Bajrang Dal and VHP cadres with attacking Christians trying to return to their homes from relief camps and resorting to forcible conversions.

“The situation in Orissa is still very bad. I will soon lead a delegation to the Prime Minister of eminent leaders from the minority Christian, Muslim and Sikh communities to demand a CBI into the Orissa attacks,” Paswan said.

Justifying the demand for a CBI probe, the Union Minister said that it was necessary to bring out the truth behind the murder of Swami Laxmananda and the subsequent attacks on the Christian community. Paswan also reiterated his demand for a ban on the Bajrang Dal and the VHP.
