THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, November 27: The Kerala Chief Minister, E K Nayanar, today said the need of the hour was general elections. The CPI-M and its allies felt that general elections were the only solution to break the imbroglio at the Centre, where the Congress was demanding the ouster of the DMK from the UF government in the wake of the Jain Commission interim report, the CM said replying to questions after a briefing.

Privilege move

CALCUTTA, November 27: A privilege motion against Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, for certain remarks about Congress leader Pranab Mukhejee’s election to Rajya Sabha in 1993, was rejected in the West Bengal Assembly today by speaker H A Halim, amidst noisy scenes. Initiating the motion Congress MLA Sudip Bandyopadhyay, referred to Basu’s remarks in the House recently that Mukherjee had purchased four votes from the Left Front members to win the Rajya Sabha election.
