UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi has postponed her trip to the United States next month as she wants to concentrate on party affairs.

Sonia was scheduled to attend former US president Bill Clinton’s global initiative conference in New York from September 18-20 and meet President George W Bush in Washington.

The Congress chief ministers’ meeting is coming up next month, where Sonia will review the implementation of the party’s manifesto. Preparations are also on for the Congress Plenary for reconstituting the AICC this October.

However, government sources pointed out that Sonia’s visit may have clashed with the Prime Minister’s trip to New York where he will address the United Nations General Assembly. Singh will also meet US President George Bush and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

Sonia may visit the US at a later date, the sources said.
